Amazon Studios pilots have arrived, starring John Goodman (Argo), Jeffrey Tambor (Arrested Development), Bebe Neuwirth (Frasier) – and viewers, who will help decide which shows return with more episodes. TV fans are invited to watch comedies and children’s shows for free, and offer opinions about them, at amazonoriginals.com.
Positively Ozitively, an Amazon Studios series pilot in production, features the children of beloved Oz characters. Which style of animation do you think children will prefer?
Ed Begley Jr. stars in Betas, an Amazon Studios pilot.
“These are first-class TV productions,” Amazon Studios Director Roy Price told The Los Angeles Times. “The whole concept of a Web series is going to fade away.”
Betas, a comedy pilot from creators and producers with credits including True Blood, King of the Hill, and Sideways, is the latest addition to the Amazon Studios production slate. The show is about four friends trying to make it big in Silicon Valley, and joins seven other comedies (and six children’s shows) in Amazon’s pilot lineup. All will premiere this spring on Amazon Instant Video and LOVEFiLM.
Evan Endicott and Josh Stoddard wrote and created Betas. Michael Lehmann (Heathers, True Blood, Dexter, American Horror Story) is directing the pilot and executive producing, along with Emmy Award winners Alan Freedland and Alan Cohen (King of the Hill, Due Date, American Dad), and Academy Award nominee Michael London (Sideways, The Visitor, The Informant).
“Amazon is the new television frontier because they are providing a chance to connect directly with audiences, especially those hungry for high-quality original content,” London said. “Betas is the perfect match for that model – a half-hour comedy about a group of tech-savvy Millennials trying to make it personally and professionally in a world where the Alphas seem to never change.”
Once completed, all 14 of Amazon’s pilots will be posted on Amazon Instant Video for Amazon customers to watch for free. Viewer feedback will help determine which series Amazon Studios should produce. Completed seasons will be exclusively available to Prime members through Prime Instant Video and LOVEFiLM in the UK for free.
