It may not be the greatest James Bond theme song — “Goldfinger” (Shirley Bassey), “Live and Let Die” (Paul McCartney), and “Nobody Does It Better” (Carly Simon) are duking that one out — but Adele’s “Skyfall” is almost certainly the best of the post-Roger Moore Bond themes.
Adele co-wrote the song with “Rolling in the Deep” collaborator Paul Epworth, who had this to say about it:
“We went very much with the narrative of the film,” he said. “We talk a lot about Bond’s relationship to the country” and to the British intelligence service. He added: “There’s a little bit of that in the lyrics, and I guess we were trying to find a way to almost make that romantic, you know?”
