Do you consider Bewitched a feminist sitcom? Because we consider it one of the first.

It’s easy to dismiss Bewitched as high-concept fantasy fluff (there was certainly plenty of that airing in the ’60s). But the AV Club argues that there was something deeper going on:

[Producer Danny] Arnold actually said that he considered the theme of the show to be a woman with more power than her husband and her husband’s attempts to come to terms with that. (He also said he thought of the show as one about a mother dealing with her daughter marrying beneath her.)… This could have come off as retrograde or clumsy, but it worked because of the writing talent assembled and the actors.
