On comedy, and why it's so hard to be funny

Why is comedy such a challenge? According to Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon, stars of Reno 911! and writers of hit movies like Night at the Museum, it’s because everyone knows so clearly what’s funny to them. Or at least what makes them laugh. Can’t say the same thing about, say, drama (on a related note, avoid the :45-:50 mark if you haven’t seen The Descendants).
